Become a Step Up Choice Navigator Provider in Florida
At a Glance
A choice navigator gives families educational consultations, curriculum advice, and career guidance, including consultations on selecting, applying to, and enrolling in educational options. Families can pay for that work with scholarship funds under Unique Abilities (FES-UA), the Private School Scholarship (FTC and FES-EO), and the Personalized Education Program (PEP), but only through providers Step Up has approved in EMA, its online system.
This page covers what approval involves for a choice navigator: the scholarships that can pay for this work, the credential routes Step Up recognizes, the boundary that applies to PEP students, how payment reaches you, and the mistakes that slow applications down. Step Up reviews every application and makes every approval decision.
What Families Can Pay You For
FES-UA, FTC, FES-EO, and PEP can pay for choice navigator services: educational consultations, curriculum advice, and career guidance. A family can pay you through Direct Pay in EMA, or pay you themselves and request reimbursement from their scholarship account.
One boundary shapes the PEP side of this work. A choice navigator may not oversee or exercise control over the curricula or academic programs of PEP students. The role is consultation: helping families select, apply to, and enroll in educational options, not running the program a PEP student follows.
What It Takes
Step Up recognizes four credential routes in this category:
- A valid Florida Educator's Certificate, or
- An adjunct teaching certificate from a Florida school district, or
- A bachelor's or graduate degree in the subject area, or
- Handbook-listed subject mastery documentation.
At a headline level, the Business account asks for tax ID information, your legal name as registered with the IRS, and bank details so Step Up can pay you. The Personal account asks for one of the credential documents above, and it must be linked to an approved Business account.
Mistakes That Slow Choice Navigator Applications Down
- A degree outside the subject area. A degree in a different subject than the one your work covers does not document mastery of that subject.
- An expired educator certificate.
- A Personal account that is not linked to a Business account.
